Does your Dometic three way fridge run well on electric hook-up and on 12v but hardly cools on gas?
This is a problem I suffered last year. The problem turned out to be a partial blockage of the tiny nozzle in the gas regulator . I watched the Dometic engineer repair it and put this knowledge to good use when the problem recurred in Germany. On both occasions there was still a small blue flame but you could not hear the gas gently ‘roaring’. Obviously the information below is just for interest as gas appliances should only be repaired by qualified personnel. Do NOT attempt to clear a blocked jet with a pin. Nick Mawby
The view of the fridge from the back; looking at bottom right .
Remove the screw on the left hand side of the burner cover box .
The burner can now be seen ; pivot the cover and unhinge on the right .
Inside the box is rust that has dropped from the chimney; blow rust from burner .
You now have access to the burner assembly .
Remove screw that secures burner and gently ease down the burner .
With one spanner holding the burner side, use another to unscrew the nut .
The burner can now be slid off the gas pipe .
Angle the assembly downwards and tap it to expel the jet .
This is the expensive jet with a microscopic hole .
Dirty jet on left partially blocked and after cleaning with pressurised gas on right .
Do NOT clean the jet nozzle with a needle; if you do not have a new one, use lighter gas to clean (hold upside down and squirt liquid fuel through jet) .
of use a rotary electric toothbrush
Place clean jet into assembly and push in gas pipe .
Secure the nut firmly using spanners .
Slide assembly up into flue pipe, and refasten screw .
Turn fridge onto gas and check for clear blue flame with gentle roar Check nut is gas tight (wash off soapy water as it corrodes) .
Wiggle cover back onto hinge on right then rotate and screw on. Wait 24 hours to enjoy a cold beer .
The above procedure should be carried out by a properly qualified gas fitter.
Thanks for the advice. I just got round to re-dismantling the burner unit last night and applied your squeeze and pull methodology. As I was doing it it felt like a triumph of hope over expectation, but – eureka – it worked like a charm. A dish of water miraculously transformed to ice overnight. I don’t think the fridge has ever worked better.
