a 25 mile walk over three peaks

At The Old Hill Inn

Chapel-le-Dale, Ingleton North Yorkshire, LA6 3AR

At the weekend in Hope, Anton and I were talking about long distance walks
and agreed that we would tackle the Yorkshire three
peaks. We have settled on May 17, 18 ,19 with the idea being to walk the
three peaks on whichever of the 18th and 19th is the best day. I have
arranged with the Old Hill Inn at Chapel le Dale a provisional booking for
3 to 5 vans for those dates. The are able to take 10 vans so we could take
more.

The walk is 25 miles, has the three peaks of Ingleborough (2372
feet), Pen-y-ghent (2277 feet) and Whernside (2415 feet) which we would do
in that order from the Old Hill Inn which is directly on the walk route. I
reckon on the walk taking ten and a half to eleven and a half hours, and
would want to get started at 7 in the morning. The day of the walk we could
have a celebratory meal in the inn. The site has hard standing and
electric, but no shower block. They have two letting rooms in the inn, and
we could shower there afterwards if their rooms are not let out. Cost is
£16.50 per night.

I would be happy to discuss the walk with anyone who is interested but
uncertain. I have walked it many times, and now do it at least annually.
And we could be sure of back up arrangements if people wanted to drop out
part way down, provided they could get down the hill by following a
route. There is a train for example from Horton to Ribblehead (Ribblehead
now famous as the location for the TV series ˆJericho') or Ann has said
that she would pick people up. Ann, who won’t be doing the walk, has said
that if there were partners who don’t want to do the walk, or do shorter
walks around, then she would drive over and pick them up to spend the day
at our house - we are ten or twelve miles away.

Let me know if you want any further details. And if you want to book a place, let me know by April 4th as the inn is holding the booking until then. It may well be possible to book after that date as it is mid week and the probability is that there will be places well after that, so do let me know if you want to try for a later booking. And there are wonderful walks in the area without
doing the three peaks.
