updated with details of follow on at Hawes
At Mason's Campsite
Appletreewick
We are pleased to announce a follow-on to Den and Barry’s Meet at Hebden Bridge, which has previously been advertised for Monday 2ndSeptember to Friday am 6thSeptember 2019
To continue the Yorkshire theme the follow-on will be at Mason’s Campsite at Appletreewick from Friday 6thSeptember to Tuesday am 10thSeptember. This was a site we used very successfully four years ago.
The venue is in an exceptionally pretty part of Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales not far from Ilkley and Skipton, just a mile from Burnsall and a little further from Grassington. The level site is right by the river and has good facilities including hook-ups.
Appletreewick itself is a small rural village with a couple of pubs, one of which, The Craven Arms, boasts a superb authentic cruck barn where we will be able to enjoy a group meal.
There are plenty of opportunities for walking. The Dales way is accessible directly from the site. There is easy walk to Burnsall with its pub, tea rooms and a small shop or the much busier Grassington about 8 miles away with more comprehensive facilities.
In the other direction the Cavendish tea room and Bolton Abbey are about the same distance.
There are other opportunities for exploration nearby or on the fells which are mostly quite gentle in these parts.
At the time of writing there is a bus service at the camp site on Fridays and Mondays and also from Burnsall on Saturdays or Sundays. This can take you to or from Bolton Abbey and Ilkley, or Burnsall, Grassington and Hebden, providing opportunities for ‘one way’ walks. There are connections at Grassington for Skipton and Upper Wharfedale
You will need to book directly with Mason’s. This is a very busy site, especially at weekends, so very early booking is advisable.
It is closed at present but it is easy to book online at www.masonscampsite.co.uk and the charge for a 6 metre unit is £106.50 for 4 nights including hookup. You can save £8, for over 50’s, provided you tick the Sunday to Thursday discount box at the bottom of the ‘Holiday Extras’ list. When you have booked please e-mail your confirmation to:
vince@plusnet3354.plus.com (or text 07941341912 or telephone 01977684133)
If you can make it we look forward to seeing you in Yorkshire next September!

UPDATED on 05/04/2019 with details of follow on meet:
I thought to let you know that seven of our group have booked at Hawes for three nights immediately afterwards, Tuesday 10th September to Friday morning 13th September. Maybe the option to stay in the Dales a little longer if you are travelling many miles? All welcome, lots to share, but not a formal meet.
Hawes is a very attractive market town and an important agricultural centre. A visit to the famous Wensleydale creamery is a must, the animal auction market is of television and Yorkshire Shepherdess fame and there is a handful of interesting shops as well as a wide variety of pubs and other eating places. There are lots of walking options.
There are several sites that can be used all close to the town. The Caravan and Motorhome Club has excellent facilities, but the surcharge for non-members is £12 per night. You will need to book directly with the club.
As an alternative I have arranged exclusive availability at a peaceful corner of the aforementioned auction market at £9 per night. This has a lovely view across the market town and fells. There are toilets and wash basins, but they are very basic. Also waste and fresh water but no hookup. No need to book this one just let me know a few weeks in advance.
Bob and Celia and Ingrid and Billy have booked 2 further nights at Kettlewell, back in Wharfedale again, 13th/14th September, at a small CL type site with full facilities. They say all are welcome to join them, pitches permitting. Contact Ingrid (ingridgawthorpe@hotmail.com) for booking and other information and then book directly with the owner, Alan, at the site. Early booking is advised.
At Appletreewick an evening meal is provisionally booked at the Craven Arms for Monday 9th September at 7.30. This will be in the Cruck Barn with its heather thatched roof and soaring oak trusswork – not to be missed! I will let you have menus for pre-ordering later in the year, along with all other details of the Meet.
