Join us at a meet on a pub car park after the AGM
Yvonne Mawby / yvonne@mawby.net
A few of our fellow Murvi friends have asked if it would be possible to visit the potteries after the AGM meet in Hope. I think this has been requested following the popular BBC programme ' The Great British throw down' which was filmed at Middleport Pottery in Stoke on Trent.
Nick and I have done a bit of research. We have asked at our local canal side pub and they would be happy for approx 12 vans to stay free of charge on their car park Monday until Wednesday if we eat in their bar/ restaurant.
There is plenty to do in the area:
*Walk the Roaches (15 minute drive), which is also close to Tittesworth reservoir
*Deep Hayes counry park is 10 minute walk from the pub.
*Rudyard Lake 10 minute drive
*Cycle ride/ walk along the canal tow path,( recently given a hard surface) it would be possible to cycle to Middleport for those feeling energetic! Otherwise cycle into Leek, market day is on Wednesday or to pick up your shopping at Morrisons at the end of the Caldon canal.
*Local canal side pubs in Cheddleton (2 /3 miles) or Consall ( Black Lion) approx 7 miles)
*Churnet Valley railway in Cheddleton (though no events on those days). www.churnet-valley-railway.co.uk
*National Trust fans could visit Biddulph Grange gardens or Little Moreton Hall www.nationaltrust.org.uk › both approx 12 miles
If you would like to visit Middleport Pottery, home of Burleigh pots, We would need to book a tour of the factory on the Tuesday, either 11 am or 2pm. there is unrestricted parking in the nearby street, but obviously spaces cannot be guaranteed, so it would be useful if we could share lifts to reduce van numbers at the museum. The tour costs £8.50 or £7 concession.(students/over 65) There is also a small cafe.
Therefore if you are interested in joining us :
- At the Hollybush Inn Denford, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can let the landlord know.

- If you would also like to do the Middleport tour on Tuesday 22nd March we need to know so we can reserve you a place on the tour.
We can arrange walks on Monday afternoon and Wednesday, otherwise feel free to explore the area by yourself. For further ideas look at :

If you wish to extend your stay in the area: Camping and Caravan club site and the Caravan Club site, both approx 3 miles north of Leek.
