At Summerlands
Coombe Bissett. Nr. Salisbury
Lin Powell
Following on from the Newbury show we thought if folks might like to continue on down the road for an hour to spend up to four more nights at a peaceful, rural site just south of Salisbury we will be staying at the Summerlands, Caravan Park for 4 nights for anyone who may wish to join us (not just Newburyers!). Just as Julia encouraged us to do at the AGM!
It’s a small , flat , grassland site with excellent facilities. All pitches have electric hookup and there are showers , toilets, utilities etc. and beautiful views.
It’s a walking and cycling delight, all direct from the site and hopefully the wild flower meadows will be thriving. It can be a bit hilly in places, as it is downland, but not mountainous! It is a rural site so entertainment apart from the enjoyment of the peace and quiet of the lovely countryside, is not on your doorstep. Phone and t.v reception very good.
A pub and village shop in the delightful village of Coombe Bissett is just over half an hour away by walking scenic paths and lanes (1.5 miles). Cycle too of course! You’ll only meet the odd tractor, cow or sheep, as part of the route is along the WildLife Trust nature reserve.(SSSI). A haven of special plants, birds and wildlife .(see photo). The pub is open everyday from noon and serves delicious food and local real ale all day. They could accommodate a group if required, with notice.
There are printed circular walks of varying lengths to other villages and points of interest and we are happy to lead on a couple . Local O/S maps can be loaned from the site, for a small returnable deposit.
Buses are available although somewhat scarce from (and return to !) the village for those wishing to visit Blandford Forum, Salisbury or even Shaftesbury … or the Salisbury Park and Ride may be a good option.
Indeed, if you are happy to take your van out, visiting opportunities are immense. See the site ‘local list.’
Weather permitting (it can be windy) we can have the Murvi Pergola for ‘evening get togethers’ if people wish and BBQs and fire pits are permitted using bricks provided to protect the grass. Any raucous activities are allowed to be held separately on the rally field if it’s not in use, so to spare other campers.
Hopefully May in the South will be lovely, but who knows with the English weather!
See the Summerlands website below for all details . The reviews are useful to give you a ‘feel’ for it.
