Trev and Sheila’s Campsites Spanish Med – Jan 2018
This is a very subjective list that Sheila and I put together for a neighbour’s brother who was venturing to Spain in his caravan for the first time. Any comments or additions would be gratefully received. I’ve not shown many aires as he has a caravan:-
All below are ACSI discount sites (2018 Ref in brackets). It’s definitely worth getting a card if travelling out of high season and also to check book as it gives offers such as Camping Eden 8 nts for 7. Either direct through website or order from Vicarious Books website who also do loads of other motorhome Aires and Sites books. All the Aires Spain and Portugal essential.
ACSI app is excellent and can be used offline. Great for reviews of sites and other details. CamperContact app also excellent for sites and aires
Barcelona Vilanova Park (bus to Barcelona from entrance – about an hours ride). Big site – not a lot there except for getting into Barcelona. A bit isolated. (Stayed Nov 2014)
Camping Barcelona at Mataro is supposed to be very good for getting to Barcelona but was closed. Free bus to city allows dogs
Valencia Camperpark (2832) good stop and tram to city
Peniscola Camping Eden (2860 – 8 nts for 7) – great site, a walk to lovely beach and town. Good cycling to other towns along seafront. Vinaros esp. nice prom with good restaurants overlooking sea. Many close at the end of October till Easter. Great restaurant on site – incredible value and quality
(Stayed several times). Stayed several times
Aires nearby incl. one on beach at Benicalo.
Benicassim Camping Bonterra (2826) – big site with loads of friendly Brits there for all winter. More to do out of season in town than Eden above as it’s a working town not resort.
Supermarket just outside site and Lidl up the road worth calling into on way to site if staying for a while. (Stayed Nov 2014 as Peniscola had closed down a bit)
Alcossebre Camping Tropicana (2821). Not stayed but friends like it
Javea Camping Javea (2847) – not been but supposed to be good.
We preferred Camping Naranja (2846) as much better location with a walk to town and lovely beach
Calpe Camping Calpe del Mar (2835). Smallish site in good location. Can pay extra for larger pitch. Quite a few Brits. (stayed May 2016 and 2017). Three new pay for Camperparks. Lovely seafront and old town
Oliva Kiko Park (2856) – we stayed at Eurocamping (2855). A bit isolated but fine for a night or 2. Kiko large and well organized but ACSI pitches offered were in very grotty areas. But more convenient for visiting Valencia
Alicante Camping el Jardin (2841). Tram to Alicante and Benidorm. Nice friendly site
Torrevieja Not nice town but worth a visit for prom. We stayed a bit south at Pineda de la Horedada. Lo Monte (2864) Lovely site , big pitches, many long stayers. Great for cycling and beaches. Small marina with good restaurants etc
Cartegna Camperpark, 1 hour outside town on bus. Very basic with dodgy road to bus stop outside . Old town and port are well worth a visit.
Mazzaron Playa de Mazzaron (2993). Big site on beach. Peurto de Mazarron close by and worth a visit
Cabo de Gata NP Camping Sopalmo
Cordoba El Brillante municipal campsite in city with nearby bus stop. Very tired facilities and cold showers. Would now stay at Aire car park just outside city walls.
Roses Campsite Joncar Mar – ask for new part of site.
Almeria Roquetas del Mar (2981) – popular big site we didn’t like. Mozzies
Balerma Camping Mar Azul (2955)- lovely site , big fully serviced pitches. Long stays. Not much there but good cycle ride to Almerimar Marina. Great for lunch or a wander. Great Aire on the marina
Malaga Tossa del Mar (2985) . Pitches quite tight for large vans. Near beach and long prom. Nice town and bus to Malaga (30 min walk to bus stop) and to Nerja
Malaga Camping Valle Niza Playa (2987) – not been but recommended by friends
Nerja Camping Nerja – we didn’t find as too far out of town.
Very nice place. We just stopped in big car park and wandered round and had lunch
Further Afield:
Toledo Camping el Greco (not ACSI) Bus outside for city
Vinuela Presa La Vinuela (2989) Nice site , small but great views.
Seville Peurto Gelves Aire at marina – 10 euros with shower. Good for bus into town. Very secure
Granada Camping Reina Isabel (2966). At La Zubia – Frequent buses to town
Burgos Camping Fuente Blancas (2931)
Salamanca Camping Don Quijote (2932) – cycle path to city. Bus 10 mins away
Bilbao Camping Arrien, Gorliz. Bus to Plentzia then train to Bilbao
