The meet runs from Friday 4th September to Friday 11th September 2015, 8 nights, or any part of the week as members wish.
We start off at Hawes in upper Wensleydale for four nights then move on to Appletreewick.

HAWES
We start off at Hawes in upper Wensleydale. The venue will be the Auction Market, just a few minutes away from the market town which is always busy as it is not only popular with tourists but also an important centre for the local and wider rural community. The site itself is a large flat parking area with lovely views over upper Wensleydale and we have exclusive use. Facilities are fairly basic, certainly toilets, fresh water and elsan disposal, but no hook-ups or showers. However there is a canteen which we can hire for gatherings if we so choose. Pitch fees are £7.00 per unit per night.
Hawes and the area have much to offer. For example, the town itself has a visitors’ centre, a museum, a small range of everyday shops, antique shops, plenty of pubs, eating places and restaurants, including an Indian and Chinese! Nearby is the ‘must’ for all visitors, the Wensleydale Creamery, with opportunities to sample from dozens of cheeses, and also a tea room and gift shop.
A little further afield are some easy local walks, including one to Hardraw Force, (entry only through the pub!). For the more ambitious Hawes lies on the Pennine Way and the famous Buttertubs Pass (Tour de France) is just down (up?) the road.
The local bus (The Little White Bus) is a couple of minutes from our site and can take us up to Garsdale. Alternatively, the Dalesbus travels down the valley through attractive villages like Aysgarth (Aysgarth Falls), Askrigg or Leyburn.
From Garsdale you could take a ride on the famous Settle Carlisle railway, possibly taking a break at Ribblehead to stand under, admire and breathe the history and human cost of building this amazing viaduct. (Possibility of an organised visit)

There is an auction on Tuesday (also market day) so we need to leave by 8.00 a.m. but Hawes should be fine for parking so we can linger there before taking the exhilarating drive over the moors to drop down into Langstrothdale and the upper reaches of Wharfedale, following the infant river down through its limestone landscape and the villages of Buckden, Kettlewell and Kilnsey towards Grassington and our second venue at Appletreewick.
APPLETREEWICK
(Locally known as Apptrick!) This is privately run site with all the usual facilities and I know the owners will make us feel very welcome. See www.masonscampsite.co.uk for full information.
Site fees are £20 per unit per night, with a £5 discount per night, for over 50’s, for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There is a one off non-returnable booking fee of £2.50 per unit. (i.e. £67.50 for 4 niughts)
There are two pubs in the village, one with a lovely traditionally built Cruck Barn which would make
a splendid venue for a get together over food and/or drink. See www.craven-cruckbarn.co.uk
The River Wharfe runs alongside the site (paddling or swimming available!). The Dalesway, accessed directly from the site, provides some lovely easy walking down the valley towards Bolton Abbey or up the valley through Burnsall, just over a mile away, and on to Grassington, possibly taking a detour via Linton Falls or Hebden, with its quirky little tea room. There are also plenty of opportunities for those who wish to venture onto the fells, Simon’s Seat being a popular destination or even the course of the annual fell race from Burnsall.
Grassington itself also boasts a Yorkshire Dales visitors’ centre and is another important centre for visitors and local communities with a range of shops, pubs and tea rooms mainly located around its old cobbled market square, conveniently situated away from the main road.
Buses for Grassington, or Bolton Abbey and Ilkley stop at the site entrance and would be ideal for visits to these places or for arranging a walk, one way, up or down the dale. From Grassington there are buses to the popular market own of Skipton, (Airedale) or to villages further up Wharfedale.
The meet is being organised by Yorkshire Stalwarts, Billy, Ingrid, Vince and Christine and participants can book all or any part of the week as they wish.
